To find the oxidation number of the central metal follow the below steps:

Consider x as the oxidation number of the central metal(here Fe)

The first ligand given here is H2o and H2o is neutral ligand (∴ charge the ligand is 0)

The next ligand is Nitroso whose oxidaition nothing but charge on it is -2

So4(sulphate has the charge of -2)

(So4 is not a ligand)


Now.

add all the charges/oxidation number of the compound and equate it its compound charge

Here the charge of the compound is zero i.e neutral.

x+0-1-2=0

x=+3
