\huge\bf\underline{Question}

Balance the equation

\sf{Fe+H_2O---->Fe_3O_4+H_2}

\huge\bf\underline{Answer}

For balancing the above equation, we must ensure that the number of atoms of each element in LHS must be equal to that of RHS.

Lets take the molecule \sf{Fe_2O_3} and balance the element \sf{Fe}.

We get,

\sf{3Fe+H_2O---->Fe_3O_4+H_2}

Now ,there are 4 atoms of \sf{O} in RHS.Lets balance this.

We get,

\sf{3Fe+4H_2O---->Fe_3O_4+H_2}

Now the number of atoms of H has became 8 in LHS.Lets balance it.

We get,

\boxed{\sf{\green{3Fe+4H_2O---->Fe_3O_4+4H_2}}}

Therefore,the equation is balanced now.

Extra Information:

Balanced Equation:

Equation in which the number of atoms of each elements of molecule is equal in the reactant as well as product side.

Unbalanced Equation:

Equation in which the number of atoms of each elements of molecule is not equal in the reactant and product side.

Its also called skeletal chemical equation.
