Fe²⁺(Ferrous ion) and Fe ³⁺(  Ferric ion) can be different with the help of :

1)Colour :

Fe²⁺ : very pale green
Fe³⁺ : very pale brown/violet

2) Number of electrons :

Fe²⁺ : Number of electrons  are 24
Fe³⁺: number of electrons are 23
⇒As Fe²⁺ and Fe ³⁺ have different number of electrons .
So they have  different  valencies  and hence different chemical reactivity. So, they possess different properties.

⇒Fe3+ is para-magnetic due to presence of one electron and Fe 2+ is dia-magnetic.
