A reducing agent refers to that compound or element which loses electrons. What it basically means that it is oxidized. In the following reaction we see that 3CO starts to gain oxygen while it is reacting with Fe2O3 and hence become 3CO2. Since, 3CO is getting oxidized, hence, the reducing agent is 3CO.

Reducing agents are those substances which reduce other substances (addition of hydrogen or removal of oxygen) and themselves get oxidised (addition of oxygen or removal of hydrogen).

Fe2 O2 +3CO→2Fe+3CO2

In the above reaction, carbon monoxide (CO) acts as a reducing agent as it reduces ferric(III)oxide( Fe2O ) to form iron (Fe) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
