Answer:

1. Federalism: Refers to more than one level of government in the country. In India, we have governments at the centre,

state, and local level. The Constitution contains lists that detail the issues that each level of government can make laws on (Central, state, and concurrent lists).

Why did India adopt a Federal system?

i) India was a vast country with many different types of diversity and hence the management of the country was not possible by the central government alone.

ii) Each state had its unique culture and concerns. Hence their specific problems were better managed at the state level.

2. Parliamentary Form of Government: Constitution of India guarantees universal adult suffrage for all citizens. The people of India elect their representatives who are accountable to the people. Also, every citizen of the country, irrespective of his/her social background, can also contest in elections.

Why did India adopt a Parliamentary form of government?

Democracy means a government of the people, by the people and for the people. Functioning of the government becomes meaningful when people participate. Hence by adopting parliamentary form of government citizen could participate in formation and functioning of government.

3. Separation of Powers: According to the Constitution, there are three organs of government. These are the legislature, the executive and the judiciary. The legislature refers to our elected representatives. The executive is a smaller group of people who are responsible for implementing laws and running the government. The judiciary refers to the system of courts in this country.

Why did India adopt a Separation of Power?

To prevent the misuse of power by any one branch of government, each of these organs exercise different powers and checks on the other organs of government and this also ensures the balance of power between all three.

4. Fundamental Rights: They are the rights which are essential for intellectual, moral and spiritual development of individuals. They are essential for existence and all-round development of individuals.

Explanation:

Why did India adopt Fundamental Rights?

Fundamental Rights protect citizens against the arbitrary and absolute exercise of power by the State. The Constitution, guarantees the rights of individuals against the State as well as against other individuals. The Constitution, also guarantees the rights of minorities against the majority
