Gol Gumbaz is the mausoleum of the Sultan of Bijapur, Mohammad Adil Shah. It is significant because Mohammad Adil Shah was the most famous rule of the Adil Shahi Dynasty. He was the seventh ruler of the dynasty.


The most significant features of the Gol Gumbaz is the circular dome. This circular dome stands without the support of pillars. Gol Gumbaz means circular dome. Other features include; octagonal towers at each corner, petal carvings at the bottom etc.


The form of architecture has been inspired by Deccan Indo-Muslim architecture.

Gol Gumbaz is a famous monument present in Bijapur in the state of Karnataka in India.


It is the mausoleum of the late king Mohammed Adil Shah,l who once was a Sultan of Bijapur.


Started in 1626 and ended in 1656, the mausoleum was erected in the kind memory of the king.
