Physiological features of a "banyan tree" are as follows:

a) Banyan trees bear multiple fruits in a certain type of structure called syncarps, which provide food and shelter to fig wasps. Fig wasps help the tree in pollination.

b) The banyan has small seeds.

c) The "leaves" of the tree are large in shape, have a glossy, leathery upper coat, green in colour and is elliptical in shape. The leaf bud in banyan tree is covered with two large scales.

d) Banyan trees, that are older, have aerial prop roots, which later grows into thick, hard, woody trunk of the tree.

e) These trees generally spread laterally using these "prop roots".
