A granary is a storehouse or room in a barn for threshed grain or animal feed. Ancient or primitive granaries are most often made out of pottery. Granaries are often built above the ground to keep the stored food away from mice and other animals.

Answer:

A granary is a 'storehouse' where the grains that are threshed or the animal feed is stored.

Explanation:

Earlier, they were stored so that people can use them at the times of scarcity. Now, they are kept in the granaries to protect them from 'pests' and insects. They are kept away for a long time from the moisture so that there is no mold growth on the grains which can destroy them.

Granaries are maintained since the Neolithic age. Granaries are usually found inside the houses as a special room.
