i) Our constitution did not give the status of national language to any one language. There are many safeguards to protect other languages. ii) Hindi was made official language but 21 other languages were also recognized as scheduled languages by the constitution. iii) The states also have their own official language. State governments can do their official work in their languages. iv) Central government did not impose Hindi on states. This has avoided the situation that got created in Srilanka.
