features of pre monsoon showers
Answers
As per the India Meteorological Department, March to May are the pre-monsoon months and hence, any rainfall in this period can be attributed as pre monsoon showers. The classic features of these showers are the form of precipitation which is mainly convective (i.e thunderstorms). Various weather systems (say troughs) bring in moisture and thermal instability. Daytime heating triggers the convection process and hence you get the thunderstorms after the post-noon period. So, ideally a day will begin with a clear sky and summer like temperature but from the afternoon, these pre monsoon showers will start occurring and strong rain cooled winds (along with rain) will cause decrease in the temperatures.
However, I adhere to the pre monsoon shower terminology only in the month of June which is when the monsoon current is in the process of getting established over India and the showers that time do have connections with the monsoon unlike the showers occurring in March or May.
