India is a developing country. Even though women in India excel in many fields in par with men, the comparative literacy rate is very low. The reasons behind the poor literacy rate of females in India are:
a. Women in rural areas are not treated equally in par with men.
b. Women are still considered right to work only in households in many of the villages.
c. Female education is not considered as essential as the mentality of the people has not yet changed.
d. Female children are still considered as a burden to the family as spending on their marriage is huge because of the still prevailing dowry system in many of the remote areas.
