Ferns are more advanced than mosses as their cells are organised into tissues and organs, namely roots, stems and leaves. They also have vascular tissue (xylem and phloem) which allows them to grow vertically, as water and nutrients can be transported efficiently throughout the plant. Both mosses and ferns reproduce using spores, and both produce gametes which rely on water for fertilisation.
