There are some fruits, called parthenocarpic fruits which produce fruits without fertilization. Some examples are banana etc. Thus, it justifies the statement.

Answer:

Fertilisation is not an ‘obligatory’ event for fruit production in certain plants because development of parthenocarpic fruits does not require fertilisation to take place.

Explanation:

Parthenocarpic fruit is a fruit that develops without fertilisation. This fruit does not have a seed. These fruits provide a great advantage for herbivores because they are seedless and avoid room for seed predation.

Some plants that have been relocated from one ecosystem to another might lack their pollinators and hence depend on parthenocarpy.
