Indian tradition is incomplete without its festivals. These festivals are perhaps the true identity of our country. But as India is getting influenced by the western culture and globalization the true meaning of these festivals is lost.
The festival of lights, Diwali has made it's mark even outside India. Even the White House celebrated Diwali last year with several Global Indians. Diwali is supposed to be the festival of lights and diyas in memory of return of Lord RAM to Ayodhya. But nowadays people have forgotten this. Diyas have been replaced by artificial lights. The warmth of this festival seems to have been lost. Diwali has become the festival for the sales company to introduce different types of sales. Diwali is remembered to be the time when bollywood releases its big budget films with heavy starcasts. Diwali sweets and gifts have lost their purpose.
Holi celebration was characterized by HOLIKA DAHAN. But nowadays holi is only remembered for playing artificial colours. The pure spirit of holi has been replaced by the artificial impurities. Special Homemade Holi sweets have now disappeared.
These festival unite our country despite of its vast differences in religion, caste and economic status. But with these festivals loosing their true purpose we have lost our UNITY IN DIVERSITY.
