few children go to a park, if each child sits alone on a bench, there is one child left standing and if two children occupy each bench, one bench remains empty. How many benches are there?​

Solution :-

Let us assume that, total children go to park are x .

given that, when 2 children occupy each bench, one bench remains empty .

then,

→ Total number of benches = (Total children/ children on each bench) + Empty bench = {(x/2) + 1} .

also given that, if each child sits alone on a bench, there is one child left standing .

so,

→ Number of benches = (x - 1) / 1 = (x - 1)

therefore,

→ x - 1 = {(x/2) + 1}

→ x - (x/2) = 1 + 1

→ (x/2) = 2

→ x = 4 .

hence,

→ Total Number of benches = (x - 1) = 4 - 1 = 3 Benches (Ans.)
