the gas evolved is carbon di oxide...... the reason is lemon contains citric acid when an acid react with a metal carbonate ,there will always be a evolution of carbon di oxide.

The gas evolved is carbon dioxide.

(OPTION C)

- The citric acid is an acid and the sodium carbonate is a base. So when they react with each other they takes part in a neutralization reaction.

- As a result a salt , carbon dioxide gas and water is produced from the chemical reaction.

- The carbon dioxide is also colourless gas which fulfills the criterias mentioned in the question.

Chemical reaction :

H3C6H5O7 (Citric acid) + Na2CO3--->Na3C6H5O7 + CO2 (Colourless)+ H2O
