Experiments 3 and 4 can be compared to test if yeast is the cause of weight loss

  • Yeast in the dough metabolizes the starches and sugars in flour;yeast metabolizes simple sugars and exudes a liquid that releases carbon dioxide and ethyl alcohol into existing air bubbles in the dough
  • In case of experiments  1 & 2 stopper is present which prevents gas from escaping hence in these weight loss cannot be studied
  • In case of experiments 3 & 4 gas will escape out and hence loss in weight can be studied easily
