Mangal Pandey is regarded as one of the greatest freedom fighter who pioneered the Revolt of 1857. He was brave and valiant and also served as a soldier in British regiment. He ibecame a source of inspiration for the revolutionist and was a man of righteousness who was not ruled by orthodoxy of religion.

Mangal Pande, a Brahmin sepoy, refused to use the greased cartridge. When he was forced he flew up in rage and killed two englishsoldiers. He was arrested and later executed. This sparked revolts in Meerut, Oudh, Bareilly, Gwalior and other places in North and Central India.
