Soil is the mixture of rock debris and organic material which develops or formed due to mixture of boath on the earth surface.

India is very versatile nation and is also having many fertile soils accross various states.

As per the terrain of the states the soil type may be of different kind. It has Hilly Terrain as well as Plain terrains, Muddy Terrain as well as Dry Terrains.

Overall the major types of soil found in India us as follows:-

1) Alluvial Soil.

2) Red Soil.

3) Black Soil.

4) Dessert Soil.

5) Laterite Soil.

6) Saline Soil.

7) Marshy Soil.

8) Forest Soil.

9) Sub-mountain Soil.

10) Snowfields.

Where in (1) Alluvial Soil covers almost of 43 % of total land and mostly found in Northern Plains of India and is in rich in Potash and good for cultivation of Wheat, Rice, Sugercane and Pulses.

(2) Red Soil covers almost 18.5% of area and mostly be found in Rainfall areas like Northern east. This soil is very rich in Lime, Phosphate and nitrogen and suitable for cultivation of Cotton , Potato, Oil Seeds and Tobacco.

(3) Black Soil covers almost 15% of area and mostly be found in Southern India. This soil is very good for cultivation of Cotton as it rich in Iron, Zinc, Magnesium and aluminum.

(4) Dessert Soil is mostly be seen in dry places like Rajsthan and some part of Gujarat.

(5) Laterite Soil is mostly be found at areas of High temperature and rainfall and is rich in Aluminum and Iron.

(6) Marshy soil is found in the area of heavy rainfall and heavy humidity.

(7) Forest Soil is found in region of high rainfall. it is acidic in nature as it's having less humidity.

(8) Mountain Soil mostly found in mountain areas where less humidity is there.
