Few students took an examination. The ratio of students who passed to those who failed was 5 : 1. If 4 students had not taken the examination and had 5 more students had failed, then the ratio would have been 10 : 3. Find The total number of students who took the examination.

By the problem,

5x - 4/x-4+5 = 10/3

5x - 4/x +1 = 10/3

15x - 12 = 10x + 10

5x = 22

No. of students who failed = 22/5 = approx. 4

Total number of students who appeared = 26
