The alkali metals are a group in the periodic table consisting of the chemical elements are group 1 element. while halogens are group 17 element. Thus alkali metals have 1 electron in valence shell so alkali metals lose an electron to get complete octet while halogens try to accept an electron to complete octet.

While Ionic bond formation is takes place when one atom loos and other gain electrons.
