Position C, because the perpendicular distance of the exerted force from the pivot is the longest.

Force

Given:

A vertical force of 200N exerted by a cyclist in three different positions.

To find:

The position in which the force exerts the largest moment about pivot.

Explanation:

The required image is attached with it.

The Moment of a force is a measure of its tendency to cause a body to rotate about a specific point or axis. The magnitude of the moment of a force acting about a point or axis is directly proportional to the distance of the force from the point or axis.

Moment = Force \times Distance\ or\ M = (F)(d)

The turning effect of a force is known as the moment. It is the product of the force multiplied by the perpendicular distance from the line of action of the force to the pivot or point where the object will turn.

So , in figure c , there will be the largest moment as the perpendicular distance is maximum, which will result in largest magnitude of moment in that case.
