Given:

Balanced WHEATSTONE BRIDGE is supplied.

To find:

Value of R ?

Calculation:

  • R and 100 ohm are in parallel, so their combined resistance is 100R/(100+R).

Now, applying the General Rule:

 \implies \:  \dfrac{100}{ \bigg( \dfrac{100R}{R + 100}  \bigg)}  =  \dfrac{200}{40}

 \implies \:  \dfrac{1}{ \bigg( \dfrac{100R}{R + 100}  \bigg)}  =  \dfrac{2}{40}

 \implies \:  \dfrac{1}{ \bigg( \dfrac{100R}{R + 100}  \bigg)}  =  \dfrac{1}{20}

 \implies \:  \dfrac{100 + R}{ 100R}  =  \dfrac{1}{20}

 \implies \: 100R = 2000 + 20R

 \implies \: 80R = 2000

 \implies \: R = 25 \: ohm

So, value of R is 25 ohm.
