Answer:

Co-ordinates of the centre of mass = (L/6, 2L/3)

Explanation:

Given;-

       Masses are= m (m₁) & 2m (m₂)

Lengths are = L (r₁) & 2L (r₂) for the above masses respectively.

Now, we know that;-

 Rcm ⇒ m₁r₁ + m₂r₂/ m₁ + m₁

Note; Rcm represents centre of mass in this case.

      Rcm ⇒ m × L + 2m × 2L / m + 2m

      Rcm ⇒ mL + 4mL / 3m

      Rcm ⇒ m/ m ( L + 4L / 3)

      Rcm ⇒ L/3 , 4L/3

      Rcm ⇒ L/3 × 1/2 , 4L/3 × 1/2

      Rcm ⇒ (L/6 , 2L/3)

Hence, the co-ordinates of the centre of mass of the system of rods are (L/6, 2L/3).

Hope it helps! ;-))
