Figure shows the displacement – time graph of a body moves in a straight line.
(i) Find the velocity of the body as it moves for the time interval 5 s to 10 s.
(ii) Does the body change its direction of motion?
(iii) What happens to the speed of the body after 10 s? Give a reason for your answer.

Solution :

The above figure shows the displacement time graph of a body moving along a straight line.

We have to first find the velocity of the body as it moves for the time interval 5s to 10s .

The displacement of the body after 5s is 20m

The displacement of the body after the end of 10s is 40m

So, the displacement of the body between 5s and 10s is 20m

Time taken to cover this displacement is 10s - 5s = 5s

Velocity_5s to 10s is 40m/5s or 8 m/s

Nope. The body doesn't change the direction of motion till the first 10 seconds of its movement. After that, we can see that there is a slight dip in the slope but not enough information is given.

After 10 seconds, we can see that there is a slight dip in the displacement time gradient. That is, the amount of displacement in the next time interval is less compared to that in the first 10 seconds .
