Given:

2 wooden blocks of different masses have been kept on the ground.

To find:

  • Which block exerts more pressure

  • Value of pressure exerted by the blocks

  • Conclusion from the findings.

Calculation:

Pressure is a scalar quantity , represented by the ratio of force and the surface area upon which the force acts.

For Block A ( Smaller block):

pressure =  \dfrac{force}{area}

 =  > pressure =  \dfrac{125 \times 10}{0.01 \times 0.01}

 =  > pressure =  \dfrac{125 \times 10}{  {10}^{ - 4}  }

 =  > pressure =  125 \times  {10}^{5}  \: pascal

For Block B (larger block):

pressure =  \dfrac{force}{area}

 =  > pressure =  \dfrac{175 \times 10}{0.01 \times 0.01}

 =  > pressure =  \dfrac{175 \times 10}{  {10}^{ - 4}  }

 =  > pressure =  175 \times  {10}^{5}  \: pascal

Hence , Block B exerts more pressure on ground as compared to Block A .

Conclusion from the findings:

 \sf{pressure =  \dfrac{force}{area} }

For constant surface area ;

 \sf{ =  > pressure \propto  force}

 \sf{ =  > pressure \propto ( mass \times g)}

For constant "g" ;

 \boxed{ \sf{ =  > pressure \propto  mass }}

So, pressure is directly proportional to the mass of the body.
