Figures of speech in the poem The Hero written by Rabindranath Tagore
Answers
To begin with the river is personified, or given human characteristics, when we first encounter it, it 'frowned' like a human would. Letr the disciples costly bangle falls in the river we are told that the river stole as if meaning a human act of stealing.
The poem also uses imagery, that is uses descriptive forms with regarding to the five senses. We can see the wooden hills around the river and the bejeweled gold bangles set brought by the disciples which had diamonds. We can also picture the teacher reading the book calmly by the river, as the disciple searches for his bangle.
The poem also has the paradox to make its point. That is when the sun is setting down the disciple runs to his teacher for help but the teacher does the opposite. Instead of helping the disciple the teacher throws the other bangle in to the river to prove the point that the first bangle will be there where the second is. That is in other words lost.
