Given :- Fill in the blank: Linear equation 2x - 5y - 3 = 0 represents a ________.*

1️⃣ Parabola

2️⃣ Circle

3️⃣ Straight line

4️⃣ None of these

Solution :-

2x - 5y - 3 = 0

converting the given linear equation we get,

→ 2x - 5y - 3 = 0

→ 2x - 3 = 5y

→ 5y = 2x - 3

→ y = (2/5)x - (3/5)

→ y = (2/5)x + (-3/5)

which is in the form of y = mx + c and since this is the general equation of a straight line .

therefore, we can conclude that, linear equation 2x - 5y - 3 = 0 represents a Straight line (3) .

SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

Linear equation 2x - 5y - 3 = 0 represents a ______

1. Parabola

2. Circle

3. Straight line

4. None of these

CONCEPT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

Linear Equation

A linear equation is an algebraic equation consisting of variables and constants and equality sign in which each term has an exponent of one

REASON BEHIND THE NAME

If you plot the solutions of a linear equation in Cartesian Coordinate system the results in a straight line.

EVALUATION

Here the given equation is

2x - 5y - 3 = 0

In the above algebraic equation there are two variables x and y .

In the above equation the exponent of each x and y is one

Thus the given algebraic equation consisting of variables and constants and equality sign in which each term has an exponent of one

So the given linear equation is Straight line

Graph : Graph is referred to the attachment

Form of a straight line :

An equation of a straight can be written is any of the below form

1. Intercept form

2. Slope - intercept form

3. Normal form

The general equation of any straight line is

 \boxed{ \:  \:  \sf{ax + by = c \: } \:  \: }

More over the general equation of

A. Circle : x² + y² + 2gx + 2fy + c = 0

B. Parabola : y² = 4ax

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is

3. Straight line
