Reduction takes place in - carbon.

In the given reaction, reactants namely zinc oxide represented by ZnO and carbon represented by C have atomic valency +2,-2 and 0 respectively.

In the products, carbon is converted to carbon monoxide and zinc oxide is converted to zinc.

The valency of resultant atoms in products is 0, +2 and -2 respectively.

Reduction refers to gaining of electrons, and it's clearly visible, that carbon has gained electron and hence it is reduced.
