Areas with thorny vegetation will have very few rainfall because thorny vegetation generally grows in deserts which have very less water . The thorns in the plants are nothing but modified leaves . They are capable of doing photosynthesis just like any other leaf . They just have thorns because thorns will prevent the loss of excess amount of water through transpiration . Transpiration happens when the water gets evaporated from the pores of leaves due to the sun's heat. Since thorns are hard they wont have as many pores as leaves will have which will in turn reduce the loss of water through transpiration.
