Answer:
The answers are as follows -:
- Increase
- Reduce
- 4 pa
- Equal
- Decrease
Explanation:
1. We know that force and pressure are directly proportional to each other. Thus, if the force acting on an area is increased, the pressure increases.
2. Pressure and the area of contact (i.e, the area over which the pressure is exerted) are indirectly proportional. Hence, bags with thin straps exert greater pressure on our shoulders, causing pain, whereas broad straps are meant to reduce the pressure on our shoulders.
3.If the weight of the object kept above the previous object is same, then it will exert the same force on the ground. (because weight is basically the force with which earth pulls an object towards its centre). Now, since both the objects are exerting the force in the same downward direction, their net force is the sum of the two individual forces. However, the area over which these forces are acting is still the same, and hence the net pressure becomes doubled.
4) At a given depth, liquids exert same pressure in all directions. You can verify this by a simple activity. Take a plastic bottle and make small holes around the bottle in all the directions, at certain height, say 4 cm above the base of the bottle. Fill it with water and you will notice that water flows out of all the holes with the same pressure.
5) As we go farther and farther above sea level, the atm. pressure decreases considerably. This is why mountain hikers, carry an oxygen cylinder upto the peak of the mountain. Because of less atm. pressure the pressure inside their bodies becomes dominant and may cause blood to rush out through nose or even mouth in severe cases.
I really hope this helped you to understand the reason behind each phenomena :)
