1. kolkata is more crowded than Hyderabad [crowded)

2.My mother is the best Cook in the world

3. Antarctica is the coldest continent in the world.

Before we know about the answer, we need to know about the degree of adjectives.

Adjectives have three degrees that compare one thing to another. The three degrees of adjectives are:

1) positive

2) comparative

3) superlative

First comes the positive degree. It is a term that relates to adjectives and adverbs. An adjective or adverb that does not make a comparison is said to be in the positive degree.

Second is the comparitive degree. If two items/people are compared, a comparative degree is used by putting 'er' to the adjective word in association with the word 'than'. In some cases 'more' is used.

On the first question;

Kolkata is _____ than Hyderabad.

Here, we are comparing two places. So, a comparative degree is used: Crowded-More Crowded.

Finally, the Superlative degree. The superlative degree compares more than two things to show which has the least or greatest degree of the quality.

In the last two questions:

2. My mother is the __ Cook in the world.

3. Antarctica is the ___ continent in the world.

Here in the second question, the Mother is being compared with the other chefs in the world. So, a superlative degree is used: Good-Best.

The same way, in the third question, Antarctica is compared to the rest of the continents. So, a superlative degree is used here as well: Cold-Coldest.
