Solution:



(i) (x + 2y)² = x² + 2x(2y)+ 4y² = x² + 4xy + 4y²


 (x+y)^{2} = x^{2} +2xy+y^{2}


(ii) (2x - 5y)² = 4x² - 20xy + 25y²


 (x-y)^{2} = x^{2} - 2xy+y^{2}


(iii) (101)² = (100 + 1)² = (100)² + 2(100)(1)+ 1² = 10000+200+1 = 10201


 (x+y)^{2} = x^{2} +2xy+y^{2}

(iv) (98)² = (100 - 2)² = 10000 - 2(2)(100) +(2)² = 10000-400+4 =9604


 (x-y)^{2} = x^{2} - 2xy+y^{2}


(v) (5m + 3n)(5m - 3n) = (5m)² - (3n)² = 25 m² - 9n²


∴ (a+b)(a-b) =  a^{2} - b^{2}
