Method 1 :- LCM METHOD

STEP 1- Take LCM of 2 and 4,you will get 4

Step 2- divide this 4 by denominator of fraction 1 i.e 1/2 you will get…4/2=2

step 3 - multiply this 2 with the numerator of fraction 1 i.e 1/2 you will get…2 * 1 = 2

step 4- Similarly follow step 2 and 3 for 2nd fraction. you will get…4÷4=1 ….then 1*1=1

step 5-Now add result of step 3 and 4 i.e 2+ 1

step 6 -divide step 5 by LCM.i.e 3/4

3/4 will be your answer.

Method 2 - Decimal method

Step 1- Convert both fractions into fraction

i.e 1/2 = 0.5

and, 1/4 =0.25

Step 2- Add 0.5 and 0.25

i.e 0.5 + 0.25 = 0.75

Step 3- convert the decimal into fraction now.. i.e 0.75 = 75/100

step 4- Convert 75/100 in simplest form ,you will get 3/4.

So you got your answer…i.e 3/4

Given:

How do I solve 1/2 +1/4 step wise?

Solution:

In order to add two fractions with different denominators, one or all denominator must convert (be the same).

Two methods:

Take the denominators and multiply them together, ie 2 x 4 = 8.

The numbers will change ,but the faction will be the same 1/2 = 4/8 and 1/4 = 2/8.

Now you can add : 4/8 + 2/8 = 6/8 which is equal to 3/4.

By observing the problem 1/2 is equal to 2/4. You now have both fractions with the same denominator.

Now add: 2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4
