xy=16
Now (x+y)²=289
or x²+y²+2xy=289
or x²+y²+2(16)=289
or x²+y²+32=289
or x²+y²=257
Then (x-y)²=(x²+y²)-2xy
=257-32=225
So x-y=±15......(ii)
taking equation (ii) as +15,and solving with (i)
we get x=(-1) and y=(-16)
Next taking eq(ii) as -15,and solving with (i)
we get x=(-16) and y=(-1)
So simultaneously answer will be -16 and -1 are two required numbers.
