Step-by-step explanation:

5 mathematical puzzles and brain teasers:-

1)A fireman Jacob stood at the centre of a ladder and was spraying water on a burning house. He climbed up 6 rungs before the heat of the flames forced him to come down 10 rungs.  Some minutes later, Jacob climb 18 rungs to the very top of the ladder. How many rungs did the ladder have?

Answer:

According to the question Jacob is standing on the middle rung.

Let the middle rung be defined by M.

Now he goes up 6 rungs, so he is at (M+6) rung. After that due to the heat of the flames he goes down 10 rungs , so he is at (M-4) rung. After some time he climbs 18 rungs to reach top of the ladder. His current position is (M+14) ,that is 14 ladders from the middle. There must be 14 ladders below it.

So total no. of rungs = 14(to the top from middle)+14(to the bottom)+1(the middle ladder itself).

=29

2) If 21 is added to four times a number, the result is 57.

Then the number is?

Answer:

Let the number = x

It is given that 21 is added to 4 times the number(4x) = 4x+21.

According to the question, this is equal to 57.

⇒ 4x+21= 57

⇒ 4x = 36

⇒ x= 9

Therefore the number is 9.

3) 30 / 6 * 2 - 3 * 2 + 12 / 2 = ?

Answer: The concept used is BODMAS

So in this equation we have to Do division first, then multiplication, then addition and at last Subtraction.

30 / 6 * 2 - 3 * 2 + 12 / 2 = ?

= 5*2-3*2+6

=10-6+6

= 10

4) 5x²=√25

Answer:

5x²=5

= x²=1

x=1 or -1

6) If,

29 - 1 = 30

9 - 1 = 10

14 - 1 = 15

Based on above logic, can you prove that

11 - 1 = 10 ?)

answer:

Remove I (Roman equivalent of number 1) from the left side, you will the get the number on the right.

29 - 1 = 30

XXIX - I = XXX (Roman equivalent of number 30)

14 - 1 = 15

XIV - I = XV (Roman equivalent of number 15)

9 - 1 =10

IX - I = X (Roman equivalent of number 10)

Similarly,

11 - 1 = 10

XI - I = X (Roman equivalent of number 10)
