It depends on what you mean. -0 could be the answer, but its numerical value is 0 (despite being a different number). -1 is only the greatest negative whole integer. The greatest negative integer other than -0 would be -0.0000000000…1 with the zeros continuing forever. The absolute value of this number is the smallest infinitesimal possible. However, the fun thing about English is how many meanings one sentence can have. I don’t personally have an opinion of what the best negative integer is. I like many negative numbers. I also don’t think any of the numbers are bad. So, I cannot choose the greatest of the negative numbers. I love wordplay. I took advantage of the fact that “greatest” can mean “largest in value” or “best” and that negative can mean “less than 0” or “bad”.
