Answer:

a = -3 ; -4

Step-by-step explanation:

(i) According to remainder theorem,

p(-1) = 16

=> 2(-1³) - 3(-1²) + a(-1) - 3a + 9 = 16

=> -2 - 3 - a - 3a = 7

=> -5 - 4a = 7

=> -4a = 12

=> a = -3

(ii) According to remainder theorem

remainder of (2x³ -3x²+ax -3a +9) / (x+2) = p(-2)

= 2(-2³) - 3(-2²) + (-3)(-2) - 3(-3) + 9

= -16 - 12 +6 +9+9

= -28 + 24

= -4

Hope that helped
