Answer:

a= -2

Step-by-step explanation:

let x+3=0

so, x= -3

now, f(3) should be equal to 0

f(3)= (-3)⁴-(-3)³-11(-3)²-(-3)+a =0

81+27-99+3+a=0

a+2=0

a= -2

Given:

  • x + 3 is a factor of x⁴ - x³ - 11x² - 2 + a

Find:

  • Value of a

Solution:

x + 3 = 0......Given

x = -3

Substituting value of x in x⁴ - - 2 + a

➨ f(x) = x⁴ - x³ - 11x² - 2 + a = 0

➨ f(-3) = (-3)⁴ - (-3)³ - 11(-3)² - 2 + a = 0

➨ f(-3) = 81 - (-27) - 11(9) - 2 + a = 0

➨ f(-3) = 81 + 27 - 99 - 2 + a = 0

➨ f(-3) = 108 - 101 + a = 0

➨ f(-3) = 7 + a = 0

➨ a = - 7

Hence, value of a will be -7
