The smallest 6 digit number is 100000 We find the square root of 100000with a calculator: = 316.227766 We take the next larger whole number 317We square 317 317² = 100489 That's the smallest perfect square which is a 6-digit number, because when we square 316 we only get 99856, which is only a 5-digit number.

Step-by-step explanation:

the the least number of 6 digit = 100000, which is not a perfect square.

Now we must find the least number which we added to 100000 give a perfect square. This perfect square is the required number. Now we find out the square root of 100000 ( division method)

clearly, ( {316}^{2}) < 100000 < ( {317}^{2} )

∴ the least number to be added = ( {317}^{2} ) - 100000 = 489

Hence, the required number = ( 100000 + 489 ) = 100489.

Also, \sqrt{100489} = 317
