The Number Is 1000.

GIVEN

The fourth part of a number, when decreased by 20, is equal to its fifth part increased by 30.

TO FIND

The number

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows.

Let us suppose that the number is x

So according to the question -

1/4th part of the number is decreased by 20:

 \frac{x}{4} - 20

1/5th of the number is increased by 30:

 \frac{x}{5} + 30

And,

( \frac{x}{4} ) - 20 = ( \frac{x}{5} ) + 30

 \frac{x}{4} - \frac{x}{5} = 30 + 20

 \frac{x}{4} - \frac{x}{5} = 30 + 20 \frac{5x}{20} - \frac{4x}{20} = 50

 \frac{x}{4} - \frac{x}{5} = 30 + 20 \frac{5x}{20} - \frac{4x}{20} = 50x = 1000

 \frac{x}{4} - \frac{x}{5} = 30 + 20 \frac{5x}{20} - \frac{4x}{20} = 50x = 1000Hence, the number is 1000.

 \frac{x}{4} - \frac{x}{5} = 30 + 20 \frac{5x}{20} - \frac{4x}{20} = 50x = 1000Hence, the number is 1000.#Spj2
