Given:

  • A (6, 5)
  • B (-4, 3)

To find:

Point on Y axis which is equidistant from A and B

Solution:

Applying Midpoint formula for X axis,

Midpoint = (x₁ + x₂) ÷ 2

⇒ Midpoint = (6 - 4) ÷ 2

⇒ Midpoint = 2 ÷ 2

⇒ Midpoint = 1

Applying Midpoint formula for Y axis,

Midpoint = (y + y) ÷ 2

⇒ Midpoint = (5 + 3) ÷ 2

⇒ Midpoint = 8 ÷ 2

⇒ Midpoint = 4

Midpoint of given points = (1, 4)

Point on Y axis = 4
