\frac{1}{2} =  \frac{1*6}{2*6} =\frac{6}{12} (multiply \:6  \:into \: both  \:sides. \:)\\ \frac{1}{3} =  \frac{1*4}{3*4} =\frac{4}{12} ( \:multiply \: 4 \: into  \:both  \:sides. \:)So, \frac{5}{12} \: is  \:the \: rational  \:number \: between \: \frac{1}{2}   \:and  \:\frac{1}{3}
