Let, a rational number between -2 and 1/2 be x

Then,

$x = \frac{ - 2 + \frac{1}{2} }{2} \\ \\ = > x = \frac{ \frac{ - 4 + 1}{2} }{2} \\ \\ = > x = \frac{ \frac{ - 3}{2} }{2} \\ \\ = > x = \frac{ - 3}{2 \times 2} \\ \\ = > x = \frac{ - 3}{4}$

So, a rational number between -2 and 1/2 will be -3/4
