Question :-

find a rational number between  \dfrac{1}{3} and \dfrac{1}{2}

Solution :-

Step : 1 firstly take L.C.M of 3 and 2

L.C.M of 3 and 2 = 3 × 2

= 6

Step 2 Make the fraction's equivalent.

  •  \dfrac{1}{3} =  \dfrac{1×2}{3×2} =  \dfrac{2}{6}

  •  \dfrac{1}{2} =  \dfrac{1×3}{2×3} =  \dfrac{3}{6}

Step : 3 Now , it becomes like fractions, now multiply both by 2

  •  \dfrac{2}{6} =  \dfrac{2×2}{6×2} =  \dfrac{4}{12}

  •  \dfrac{3}{6} =  \dfrac{3×2}{6×2} =  \dfrac{6}{12}

Rational number between them are :-

  •  \dfrac{5}{12}

One more Example for understanding more :-

find a rational number between  \dfrac{6}{12} and \dfrac{8}{12}

Solution :-

  •  \dfrac{6}{12} =  \dfrac{6×2}{12×2} =  \dfrac{12}{24}

  •  \dfrac{8}{2} =  \dfrac{8×2}{12×2} =  \dfrac{16}{24}

  •  \dfrac{13}{24} ,  \dfrac{14}{24} ,  \dfrac{15}{24}
