Let x = 1/3 and y = 1/2

=> required rational number lying between x and y

=1/2(x+y)

= 1/2 (1/3+1/2)

= 1/2×5/6

= 5/12

Hence, 5/12 is a rational number lying between 1/2 and 1/3

Let

  • x = 1/3
  • y = 1/2

=> required rational number lying between x and y

= 1/2(x+y)

= 1/2 (1/3+1/2)

= 1/2x5/6

= 5/12

Hence, 5/12 is a rational number lying between 1/2 and 1/3
