Let

  • x = 1/3
  • y = 1/2

=> required rational number lying between x and y

= 1/2(x+y)

= 1/2 (1/3+1/2)

= 1/2x5/6

= 5/12

  • Hence, 5/12 is a rational number lying between 1/2 and 1/3

\sf \pink{Required \: number = \frac{1}{2}( \frac{1}{3} + \frac{1}{2}) }

: \red \implies \frac{1}{2} ( \frac{2 + 3}{6} )

:  \red\implies ( \frac{1}{2} \times \frac{5}{6} )

: \red \implies \purple { {\frac{5}{12} }}

 \sf \pmb {Hence,\frac{5}{12} } is a rational number lying between  \sf \pmb{\frac{1}{3}} and  \sf \pmb{\frac{1}{2}}
