Let us take the cost of the article be 100.

Rate of the first discount = 20%

Then , cost of the article after discount

= 100 - 100×20%.

=100 × 80/100

=80.

Now, Rate of 2nd discount = 5% .

Then , cost of the article ager 2nd discount

=80 - 80×5/100.

=80 × 95/100.

=76.

Rate of third discount = 1%.

Then cost if article after 3rd discount =

76 × 99/100.

=75.24.

Therefore discount given =100 - 75.24 = 24.76

Therefore single equivalent discount = (24.76/100×100)%

= 24.76%.

Therefore the single equivalent discount to the above discountsis 24.76%.

=75.4%.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

By using general formula:

we can solve like this;

Three successive discount =1-(1-r1/100)(1-r2/100)(1-r3/100)

where; r1= first rate

            r2=second rate

            r3=third rate

Solution:

r1=205

r2=5%

r3=1%

discount= 1-(1-20%/100)(1-5%/100)(1-1%/100)=24.76%
