When we multiply a vector with some scaler like 2,3 ,5 etc ,it gives a vector in same direction as earlier but with different magnitude . In fact magnitude of this new vector is that scaler times magnitude of old vector. For eg. if you are multiplying the vectors a= 3i+2j-k ,which is having magnitude √(9+4+1) =√14 ,by any no. say 2 ,then magnitude of new vector will be 2*√14. Likewise if you want the magnitude of your new vector to be 4 ,you have to multiply the old vector with 4/√14. So new vector or your desired vector is (4/√14)*(3i+2j-k).
