to solve this question we have to use Pythagoras therome
that is hypothesis square is equal to base square plus perpendicular square
here
AC is hypothesis
AB is perpendicular
BC is base
So
AC^2 = AB^2 + BC^2
AC^2 = 12^2 + 13^2
AC^2 = 144 + 169
AC^2= 313
AC =√313
AC = 17.691806013....
AC=17.7cm ( approx)
